A
message from the district commissioner
Carolyn
Driver

I have enjoyed attending both the District Cub and Beaver Christingle Services, and feel quite festive now! It's nice to see so many people enjoying themselves.
Since becoming the District Commissioner it seems to have been never ending Scouting, but as Christmas approaches I have less Scouting to do and can look forward to Christmas and the new year with my family and friends. I'm sure it is probably the same for the rest of you, so have a good relaxing break over the Christmas period.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.

District
Beaver Scouts enjoyed a Christingle Service based on 'Celebrating Christmas Around the World'.
Shipley Salvation Army Band welcomed Beavers, Leaders and Parents to
Cottingley Town Hall. The service was followed by party games, a
children's entertainer and food before a traditional visit of Father Christmas! Around 70 Beavers and 25
Leaders were in attendance.

to learn about people from a different faith to their
own The cubs listened to the teaching of the Buddhist nun based at the centre. They
took part in a simple meditation on the 'happiness and kindness of others' and learnt how to
control their anger in different situations. They took part in a short
drama sketch as they learnt what it means to be a follower of Buddha. It was a
fantastic experience that all the Cubs and leaders enjoyed as they experienced
something completely different and worked towards achieving their Cub Scout
Promise Challenge badge.

Bingley Sea Scouts Annual Inspection
28th
September 2010
The
Group were on parade at Beckfoot School to be inspected by Commander
Griffiths who came up from Portsmouth. He chatted with many scouts and
explorers, followed by a slide show of the various activities the
young people had taken part in.
The
group passed with flying colours and was a credit to the scout
movement. Commander Griffiths said in his closing remarks that they had moved from being in the top 25% to the top 10% of Recognised Groups, of which there are 101 I believe in the country.
Thank you to all those in front of and behind the scenes for the support you give to the Group

Bingley Sea Scouts
Lots
of activities going on here. They are just back from a trip to Sweden.
Middle of August they are off to Lochgoilhead in Argyll for an
activity week, and then doing the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness by sailing boat the following week, for a D of E Gold
Expedition.
After that, hopefully,
they'll be off to the Norfolk Broads, and then to Shropshire. both D of E
Silver Expeditions.
Two of
their lads are doing their D of E Gold Residential at The Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth. They are flying to Southampton, then
train to Portsmouth, then sail by HM Warship to Dartmouth. After the course they
fly back from Exeter to Yorkshire. This course is to mark 150 years of Navy involvement with youth
organisations.
Two of their girls are doing a D of E Gold residential at Plas-y-Brenin
- white water kayaking.
PHEW!
I'm
hoping to get some great photos to add here

'Heroes'
